Call to End Malnutrition in all Forms Welcomed

The World Cancer Research Fund International has today urged world governments to end malnutrition in all forms.  A statement calling on Member States attending the Second International Conference on Nutrition next week to take action to address malnutrition in all its forms - including the poor diets that lead to overweight, obesity and non-communicable diseases like cancer, heart diseases and diabetes.

Issued jointly with The NCD Alliance - which represents a network of 2,000 organisations worldwide – the statement argues that finding solutions to malnutrition in all its forms is essential for sustainable food systems that will provide the nutrition needed for good health across all populations around the world.

The statement specifically asks Member States to outline the actions they are going to take to implement the Rome Declaration which will be discussed at the Second International Conference on Nutrition next week (19-21 November 2014).

The priority commitments from the Rome Declaration outlined in the statement are that countries co-operate internationally to:

  • Enhance sustainable food systems by developing coherent public policies from production to consumption;
  • Develop policies, programmes and initiatives for ensuring healthy diets throughout the life course, starting from the early stages of life to adulthood;
  • Empower people and create an enabling environment for making informed choices about food products for healthy dietary practices.

More details can be found in the full statement, which can be read here
