Endometriosis and Diet

Research on endometriosis is emerging which suggests that making changes in your diet may help to reduce symptoms. However, information on diet and endometriosis found online can be confusing and overly restrictive.

As endometriosis affects everyone differently there is no ‘one size fits all’ diet. However, the diet with the most evidence for the most people is the Mediterranean style diet. The Mediterranean diet has been shown to reduce inflammation and may help with abdominal pain and bowel symptoms such as bloating in endometriosis. It is also the best diet to optimise fertility if you plan to get pregnant. The Mediterranean diet has been shown to help in a lot of other conditions too such as heart disease, cancer prevention and mental health. There are very few risks associated with trying this diet for you (or for your family) and in fact a recent review of diets for endometriosis has recommended it as the first line dietary approach.
