Enteral tube feeding in the community can be a challenging task for the patient, their carer and the multi-disciplinary team managing the patient. Furthermore standards of care and practice, as well as support, can vary throughout the country resulting in a different experience for each patient.
The aim of the Nutrition Support Interest Group of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute in producing this resource pack was to outline the most up to date guidelines and recommendations for health care professionals on the management of home/nursing home enteral tube feeding.
These guidelines were developed using information from the Clinical Resource Efficiency Support Team (CREST) guidelines for ‘The management of enteral tube feeding in adults’. They are designed to offer practical advice on issues such as management of the stoma tract, managing complications (such as diarrhoea and constipation), and drug administration.
